• The Chicago Great Western Railway (CGW) was a Class I railroad that connected Chicago, Minneapolis, Omaha, and Kansas City. Founded by Alpheus Beede Stickney in 1885 as the Minnesota and Northwestern Railroad, it quickly expanded and merged to become the CGW after 1892. Nicknamed the Corn Belt Route, it operated in the midwestern United States and developed a reputation for innovation and efficiency. The CGW competed against other established railroads in the same territory and survived through its corporate culture and strategic decisions. In 1968, it merged with the Chicago and North Western Railway (CNW), which eventually abandoned most of the CGW’s trackage.

• The EMD RS-2 (Road Switcher 2nd series) was a diesel-electric locomotive built by Electro-Motive Division (EMD). The RS-2 was part of EMD’s “Road Switcher” series, designed for both road and switching duties.
