The Locomotives available for Operations have been tuned for Train Class 1 normal and restricted speed ranges. By tuned we mean that the percentage of throttle speed correlates to the locomotive speed. So 15% of throttle correlates to 15 mph.
Locomotives for Train Class 1 Freight trains have a nominal maximum speed of 20 mph for normal operations and 10 mph for restricted operations. Locomotives for Train Class 1 Passenger trains have a nominal maximum speed of 30 mph for normal operations and 15 mph for restricted operations.
Although the variables affecting speed for each locomotive makes speed matching of all locomtives over the full throttle "voltage" range virually impossible, we have achieved very good matches across the limited speed ranges permitted for Train Class 1 railroads.
We have also decided to replace the Accumate, Kato and other non-Microtrain couplers with Microtrain couplers. In many cases we use #1016-1 medium length couplers. to better accomodate the tight radii of some partes of our trackage.
Our current roundhouse manages these road, yard and stub Locomotives for OPS Sessions.
