If there are no cars of the needed type at the Industry or at the yard serving the industry when the shipment occurs, MRRM will order the car from another yard in the same division or from another car in a foreign division. If the car is found, its route will be created as a separate shipment activity. The awaiting shipment will wait for the car to arrive and be loaded before a train is scheduled to come and get the car.
If the shipment comprises multiple cars and some are available and some are not, the shipment is divided into two shipments and each are handled as appropriate.
This figure shows a list or cars automatically ordered from other yards and forwarded via way or fast freights traveling in the appropriate direction. All activity is automated but can be manually modified if desired
For each car ordered, a single record of the format shown here is created.
Requesting Yard - The home yard of the shipper needing a car
AAR - the type of car requested
Status - is '' when the car order is placed; Status is changed to 'sending' when the car is found and a shipment to send it to the requesting yard is created.
Requesting Shipment # - The Shipper's shipment number which requires the car requested
Providing Yard - when a car is found, this is the yard that is providing the car
Assigned Car - this is the unique rolling stock ID of the car provided
Providing Shipment # - a special type of shipment is created to move the car from the providing yard to the requesting yard. The route may have more than one route leg if needed.
Seq # - is a one up number log of the car order requests.
The 'Find + Ship Empties' button on the green background tells MRRM to find needed cars in a prospective yard and to ship them to the requesting yard for movement to the shipper needing the car. This button is automatically performed every hour of Industry time.
If you are operating in manual mode then you will need to click this button regularly if there are outstanding car orders. The automatic traffic generator handles this stop for you otherwise.
